Intro

A Youth Activist, Researcher and an Entrepreneur, Mr. Suraj Gautam pursued his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering & Masters in Engineering, Disaster Risk Management (Gold Medalist) from IOE Pulchowk Campus, Tribhuvan University, Nepal. He has a healthy experience in leading DRR related projects, Trans boundary research, conducting risk assessments, using frontier technologies like Drones for DRR planning and urban development. His key research interests include the study of Geo-Hazards, Climate Change, Flood/Landslides Risk Mapping, Modelling, and Early Warning System. In his initial days, he worked as Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant at the Institute of Engineering. Since then, he has been providing consulting services to the number of organization and is also the DRR Advisor at Nepal Flying Labs. In order to promote innovations and science based decision making in DRR/M, he co-founded a research institute named "Institute of Himalayan Risk Reduction" and is currently working as an Executive Director. He is also serving as a National Co-lead for the youth and young professional forum; U-INSPIRE Nepal and was also elected as a Deputy Chair at the Asian Civil Engineering Coordinating Council Future Leaders Committee. He is also a recipient of the prestigious "Bidhya Bhusan Kha" awarded by the President of Nepal and is also enrolled in a Young Scientist Program of Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR). He has also successfully completed his Fellowship at the Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor's Research Fellowship 2020/21 Program.
